Business context
Jolimoi is a social-selling beauty & well-being platform empowering independent Stylists to build their own business.
When new Stylists join Jolimoi, they enter a 2-month onboarding program called Quickstart. It's purpose is simple: help understand the business, feel confident, and achieve their first sales.
This project was developed hand-in-hand with two Product Managers.
The problem
The original Quickstart was essentially:
- A long checklist
- Static content (PDFs, videos)
- No structured progression
- No step validation
- No visibility of real advancement
As a result:
- New Stylists felt overwhelmed
- They didn't know where to start
- There was no sense of achievement
- Coaches created their own step-by-step and gamified tools outside the app
The onboarding was fragmented and lacked momentum.
Objective
We set out to redesign Quickstart to:
- Increase Stylist activation (first sale)
- Simplify the learning journey
- Create clear step-by-step progression
- Introduce gamification mechnanics
- Enable tracking for Coaches and Jolimoi teams
Research & co-creation
I conducted qualitative interviews with new Stylists, recently onboarded Stylists and experienced Stylists/Coaches.
The goal was to understand friction points in early activation.
Three major insights emerged:
- Clarity reduces anxiety: New Stylists need to know exactly what to do first.
- Validation increases motivation: Progress must be visible and acknowledged.
- Momentum drives activation: Small wins create confidence.
Instead of designing in isolation, we co-created the new structure with Coaches, which ensured adoption and field alignment.
Quickstart V2 — Strategy shift
We reframed Quickstart from a content repository to a structured activation journey.
My focus was to translate that vision into a clear, actionable flow. This meant not only organizing content differently, but also designing moments of interaction — such as integrating in-app guided tutorials to help Stylists practice directly within the tool instead of consuming information passively.
The core principles became:
- One step at a time
- Locked progression
- Visible advancement
- Emotional reward
- Momentum building
The redesigned Quickstart is now structured into two main phases:
Phase 1 — Foundations
1. Understanding your role at Jolimoi (Vision, business model, mindset)
2. Discovering and talking about your products
3. Creating your contact list
4. Mastering the basics for your first sales (This step integrates interactive in-app tutorials, allowing Stylists to learn by doing directly inside the Business App)
5. Presenting Your Activity & Attracting Your First Clients (Including Business Party format, optional for those who prefer to go directly into digital selling)
2. Discovering and talking about your products

5. Presenting Your Activity & Attracting Your First Clients (Including Business Party format, optional for those who prefer to go directly into digital selling)
Phase 2 — Growth
6. Selling on Social Media (How to position yourself on platforms like Instagram or TikTok, create content, and engage your audience effectively.)
7. Building and Inspiring Your Team
7. Building and Inspiring Your Team
Gamification layer
To reinforce motivation, we introduced a gamified layer.
A guiding avatar
An in-app character that:
- Introduces each step
- Validates progress
- Encourages continuation
A badge system
Milestones unlock visible achievements, turning progress into something to celebrate.
Dedicated experience pages
The experience is split into three core pages, to create clarity, engagement & recognition:
- Progression Dashboard — overview of advancement
- My journey - detailed step-by step flow
- Rewards — badge collection & achievements
Impact
The redesign transformed Quickstart from a passive checklist into a structures activation system:
- Activation rate increased from 25% to more than 35%
- Higher Stylist satisfaction scores
- Strong adoption from Coaches
- Positive feedback on clarity and simplicity
New Stylists describe the experience as step-by-step, intuitive, motivating & structured.
Conclusion
Quickstart V2 allowed us to move from a static checklist to a structured and motivating onboarding journey. By clarifying each step, validating progress, and adding a gamified layer, the experience became easier to follow and more engaging for new Stylists. The increase in activation showed that structure and clarity can directly impact confidence and first sales.
If I were to push this project further, the next step would be to make it more scalable and adaptable.
One important improvement would be to introduce a content management capability, allowing the Field Team to update onboarding materials independently, without going through developers. Since training content evolves regularly based on field feedback, giving them autonomy would make the system more agile and sustainable over time.
Another direction would be to personalize the journey based on the Stylist’s starting level. Today, every new Stylist follows the same path. In a future version, the experience could adapt depending on whether someone is completely new to social selling or already experienced. This would help beginners feel guided, while allowing more advanced profiles to move faster and focus on what truly adds value for them.
Quickstart is now a strong foundation for activation. The next iteration could make it even more flexible, autonomous, and tailored to each Stylist’s needs.
